Kidney failure, or end-stage renal disease (ESRD), is a condition characterized by irreversible kidney damage that leads to the loss of kidney function. Your kidneys help remove toxins along with excess fluids and minerals from your blood. When your kidneys don't function properly, toxins can build up and cause complications.
